Woolaning is a small one-teacher school situated in Litchfield National Park that caters for students from transition to grade 6. The school is located near Woolaning Community which has a population of between 5 and 20 people at any one time. The school is located in a beautiful area of the Top End between the picturesque Wangi Falls and the wonderful Walker Creek The enrolment varies from year to year depending on who is living in the community at the time. As one of the Top End Group Schools, Woolaning School has well established Policies and Practices across all areas. The school is very well resourced consists of a classroom, library, toilet block, basketball court, playground, outdoor learning area and outdoor undercover area and a teacher’s residence. The school is situated on 20 acres of flat ground which overlooks the scenic ranges in the distance.
The community may be cut off during the wet season, although normally only for short periods. The community is accessible by road during the wet season via Batchelor or by using an unsealed road during the dry season via Berry Springs.
Litchfield National Park is a wonderland of rain forests, waterfalls, fresh water creeks and an abundance of flora and fauna. This provides a marvelous backyard for our local children to grow up in as they swim, play and hunt for their traditional food. There are plenty of activities to do at Woolaning as we are situated in Lichfield National Park. Activities include bushwalking, swimming, fishing, photography and four wheel driving.
Woolaning School is located in Litchfield National Park, which is about a two hour drive from Darwin... approximately 150kms South-South West.
