Most of the original school buildings were destroyed by Cyclone Ingrid in 2006, only the Early Childhood building was left standing at the time.  The design of the new school building reflects the climate of its tropical location and it caters well for the needs of students and teachers. The two classrooms are divided by an acoustic accordion wall which allows for the space to be opened up into one large room.  There is also a Library and Kitchen/Artroom. Generous outside functional space made up by verandahs, a breezeway and a wet-work area, provide outdoor shelter from the elements. The demountable classroom, originally moved on-site as the temporary fix after Cyclone Ingrid, remains on site - now with a wide veranda.  Along with the Early Childhood building, this means the school is well equipped with teaching spaces.  In 2011 the new BER indoor stadium, which doubles as a cyclone shelter, was completed and officially opened.
