Welcome to Maningrida College. We offer primary, secondary and remote schooling to the predominantly indigenous community in the Maningrida area. The hub college is located in the community of Maningrida. Within the college there is Families as First Teachers program (FAFT 0-4 year olds), a crèche, preschool, primary, middle and senior years. We also service 20 homelands education sites located up to 150km from Maningrida. Many of our students move between Maningrida and the many homelands sites throughout the year. All teachers reside in Maningrida.
The school was started in 1958 as a small remote education service with one teacher. We now have a staff of approximately 120 including teachers, assistant teachers, administration, grounds and cleaning staff across the College.
Maningrida is located in Northern Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. The community is 550km east of Darwin (by road) on the central Arnhem Land coast of the Arafura Sea, at the mouth of the Liverpool River. The word ‘Maningrida’ is an English version of the Ndjébbana name ‘Manayingkarírra’, which means ‘The place where the dreaming changed shape’.
