Katherine High School

Curriculum, Teaching and Learning

Katherine High School offers both a Middle years (Years 7-9) and Senior Years (Years 10-12) Curriculum. Middle Years Students are offered rigorous and engaging courses in the core subjects of English, History, Mathematics, Science and Geography, fully aligned to the Australian Curriculum (AC) and enrichment subjects such as PE, Home Economics, Art, Music, Drama and Outdoor Education subjects which have begun implementing Australian Curriculum.

In the Senior Years NT Board of Studies accredited courses and Vocational Education and Training (VETiS) courses allow students to work towards the Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCET) or transition to work and further training. For the last few years, Katherine High School has had a completion rate for the NTCET of between 96% and 100% including students in the top 20 students in the NT.

The Daily timetable is arranged in “Lines” allowing a subject to be offered on a Line.  For example 2 Year 7 English classes may run on Line 1, so that would run first lesson Monday, 2nd and 3rd lesson Tuesday and last lesson Wednesday
