Principals Message
Dear Parents and Guardians
Welcome to Anula School
Anula opened in 1978 and over the years has been a leader in primary education. The school has an International character with students of diverse origins. We have an Intensive English Unit that caters for new arrivals to Australia and the school also accepts International fee-paying students.
The school has an Information Literacy program as well as a Physical Health and Arts Program, both provided by specialist teachers. These programs provide teacher noncontact time. A Special Education teacher and Inclusion Support Assistants (ISA s) provide specialist programs to students with High Support Needs. Two English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers works with students from non-English speaking backgrounds.
Anula is an open plan school with the Library Learning Centre as the central hub of the school. There are several banks of laptop computers that are networked and can be used in the Learning Centre or in any learning area through cabled and wireless connections. The open plan design of the school allows for flexibility, ease of communication and the sharing of skills amongst teachers and students. Disadvantages can be increased noise levels and distractions for students with short attention spans.
Classes are grouped with a two or three year age span. The aim is to have each class in the Junior, Middle and Senior sections sharing equally the spread of age, ability and interests of the whole section. Intensive English Unit classes are placed beside mainstream classes. We believe this diversity leads to a more powerful learning environment for all.
It is my belief that you are a critical part of your child's education at school. You are your child 's first teacher and I encourage you to continue the next part of the learning journey with the school. I believe in an open door policy and encourage you to be curious about what is happening in the school environment. There are many ways you can be involved in the school, including attending and being part of School Council, helping out with the occasional working bee and assisting in many different ways in the classrooms. I would encourage you to get to know your child s teacher. Feel free to make an appointment to see them or stop by as you drop your child off to school.
The school has a no tolerance policy for bullying and harassment. There is an expectation that all staff and students respect the rights of others at all times. We encourage your support in this policy. In recent times teachers, staff and students developed sets of values that will become part of the school ethos over the coming years. All that we do will be linked to the values that we believe need to be developed.
I look forward to working with you and your family over the coming year.
