English as a Second Language

An English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher works with students from non-English speaking backgrounds.

The school has an entitlement of 1.5 ESL teachers who provide support to students who have English as a second or additional language. The teachers work in collaboration with the classroom teachers to provide a program that meets the diverse needs of each student and provides support for students in accessing the classroom program and achieving the outcomes of the NT Curriculum Framework.

Anula school is also host to and Intensive English Unit. This unit has children from all over the world who are newly arrived in Australia. They require intensive support to learn English and the learn through English and the learn about Australian school culture.This unit greatly enriches the daily life of the Anula school community and assists in the teaching of values such as harmony and tolerance
