Bullying

The school has a zero tolerance policy for bullying and harassment. There is an expectation that all staff and students respect the rights of others at all times. An anti harassment appendix to the Community Well-being policy is currently before school council for ratification. This policy offers more specific detail to assist teachers to maintain a consistent and fair process to deal with these issues. At the same time classroom teachers run programs to teach students about bullying, teasing and harassment, strategies to deal with this and how to seek adult assistance if those strategies don't work. It also is necessary to address issues of student self esteem so that the person has the confidence to challenge the bully. Students are also taught that silence supports the bully in their inappropraite behaviour.
